About this Event
The Community College Initiative (CCI) students have been busy getting themselves acclimated with the campus and American culture. Students were invited to attend a traditional Thanksgiving lunch hosted by Rachel Allen, Director of the Peace & Justice Institute. The students recently volunteered at the International Day of Peace event, a United Nations-sanctioned holiday designed to promote one day of international peace. They educated the public on the importance of peace and welcomed citizens to partake in creating a human-made peace sign to symbolize peace between all humans.
Furthermore, the students met Orange County Mayor Demings and participated in a Diwali festival on October 18th, which supports the Asian community in Orlando. By attending the festival, the students reached out to the Special Assistant to the Mayor to create more events celebrating Asian culture and encouraging the acceptance of diversity.
