About this Event
Study Abroad & Global Experiences (SAGE) hosted numerous groups of international delegations and visitors touring Valencia College’s campuses this semester. These visitors are important for establishing new partnerships for future global initiatives, as well as growing Valencia’s worldwide reputation. We also try to include our students as much as possible to help internationalize their experience and provide them with opportunities for global networking. We would like to give special thanks to all of the Valencia faculty and staff who assisted with their visits as we could not make anything possible without your support!
Here's just a glimpse of the exciting delegations we hosted this semester:
- February 13-22: Professor Dominic DiPaolo, Program Chair of Digital Media, together hosted 2 faculty members from SintLucas, Eindhoven in the Netherlands for a campus visit as part of his semester-long virtual exchange/COIL called “Global 3D Design and Printing in Digital Media Education.”
- February 14: We hosted 5 visitors from Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), which is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. The delegation learned more about our global programs and met with a panel of international students.
- February 21: We welcomed a Danish Delegation hosting 11 professionals from various academic institutions in Denmark as well as the Danish Ministry of Education, for an agenda filled with site visits and learning more about our business, agriculture, culinary and arts and entertainment programs.
- March 10-14: This semester we have invited 2 Fulbright Scholars from Armenia and India to our campus through the Outreach Lecturing Fund, and they provided guest lectures in classes and met with faculty and student clubs.
- March 25-27: We hosted 16 visitors from South Africa as part of the Community College Administrator Program (CCAP), which is a U.S. State Department initiative intended to enhance international understanding of U.S. community colleges among administrators of post-secondary vocational and technical institutions as well as officials with higher education. We arranged a full schedule of site visits, presentations and meetings with faculty and students to showcase our programs at Valencia.
- April 1-5: We welcomed 2 visitors from Nepal and Ukraine through the Humphrey Fellowship Program, which is a prestigious Department of State opportunity that provides 10 months of professional enrichment and non-degree graduate-level study in the United States for accomplished mid-level professionals from designated countries.
- April 23-25: The Mexican Consulate invited us to partner with them on numerous events, including a delegation visit to our West Campus, a reception at the Consulate, and the opportunity to showcase our global learning programs at the first-ever Latin American Trade Show in Tampa.
- May 9: A delegation of 5 fellows from Oman visited Valencia through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) for meetings with our Valencia Global team to learn about partnerships and the Community College Initiative Program.
