About this Event
500 W. Livingston St, Orlando, FL 32801
Doug George-Kanentiio is a survivor of the Mohawk Institute, the first residential school opened in Canada in 1831, and one of the founding members of the Residential School Survivors of Akwesasne, whose intent is to create and effect programs designed to bring about truth and justice as defined by the victims themselves. The group is also seeking to establish national standards for the investigation into the schools, the location of those who are buried on the school sites and their return to their respective families.
The presenter will bring not only personal testimony but will have a series of images in which the audience will have the opportunity to understand daily life at the Mohawk Institute as well as the history and current situation of the Mohawk people.
