Study Abroad and Global Experiences (SAGE) hosted our fourth successful delegation from the Community College Administrator Program (CCAP), October 9-12, with thirteen representatives coming from various regions of Mexico. The CCAP program is a six-week program of study for higher education administrators from post-secondary vocational and technical institutions in foreign countries. The program is administered by the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University (FSU) and Santa Fe College (SF) on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Office of Global Educational Programs. During the program, the participants make short site visits to various state colleges in Florida, such as Valencia, to learn best practices and gain insight into new program offerings.

We were excited to showcase the unique programs of the Division of Workforce, Career, and Professional Education during their visit. Our office planned a full schedule of site visits, program overviews, and guest speakers. Some of the highlights included:

  • Overview of the Division of Workforce, Career & Professional Education and Valencia College’s Strategic Impact Plan (Joe Battista)
  • Introduction to Global and Continuing Education (Lisa Eli and Holly Bouma)
  • Cybersecurity and Computing Technology Programs (Wael Yousif and Jerry Hensel)
  • A.S. Programs in Construction Management and CADD (Andy Ray)
  • Visit to the 3‐D Printing Lab (Thomas Dillen)
  • AST Programs and tour of the facilities at Northwest (Jon DiBiase and Luisa Sersch)
  • Introduction and tour of the School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary Arts (Alex Erdmann and Steven Rujak)
  • AST Recruitment and Job Placement (Dave Giordano)
  • Accelerated Skills Transportation and Logistics Programs (Mark Hughes)
  • Intensive English Programs (Nelson Placa)

SAGE would like to extend our gratitude to everyone in the division who contributed to this visit. The feedback we received from the participants was overwhelmingly positive and one of the FSU organizers Dr. George Bishop summarized it perfectly: “Part of what FSU tries to do in planning the CCAP program is to present the finest units in the Florida College System, the ‘showcase’ colleges. Valencia, as always, is top of the line…Our visiting colleagues were much impressed with the college, its program spaces, and especially its people.”

Planning is underway for hosting our fifth CCAP delegation visit from South Africa in March 2024.
